Research interests

My research interests focus on food and culinary practices and how they structure human societies. Using molecular and isotopic analyses of organic residues preserved in pottery, I aim to identify foodstuffs and to determine how they were processed in pots. By comparing these data with other archaeological remains (shape, volume and fabric of the pots, faunal and botanical remains, etc.), I investigate culinary choices and traditions, the organisation of activities within the sites and territories, and the exchange of products. I am also particularly interested in the use of organic substances in the chaîne opératoire of pottery manufacturing.

My work focuses on the Neolithic in the north-western Mediterranean, but I have also worked on other archaeological and ethnographic contexts (Neolithic in the Jura, Iron Age in Corsica, Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages in the Mediterranean, contemporary period in West Africa).
