AD). Studies on Arabic transmission of Greek zoology have mainly focused on Aristotelian tradition (which appears, by the way, to be often indirect). But the influence of Greek zoological texts, usually through Syriac translations, goes far beyond the case of Aristotle. We would like to consider more precisely in oriental zoological literature the echoes of, or references to, Late antiquity Greek texts, among which Timotheos of Gaza (labelled as Tîmûnîyûs, Tîmûsûs, Atmînûs, etc.) probably plays an important role (Kruk 2001: 357), albeit not exclusive. This meeting is conceived as a continuation of investigations stimulated by the works of Ullmann (1972) and Sezgin (1970, 2000), and led by A.Z. Iskandar (1981), R. Kruk (2001), and T. Buquet (2014), in particular on the treatise of al-Marwazi. The recent development of new digital resources and researches (e.g. for the Al-Kitab na’t Hayawan by Contadini 2012) give the opportuny to better understand the nature and extent of this influence, which can also improve our knowledge of Greek authors of this period, who have escaped attention or lack of Greek manuscript transmission.
Program

4 novembre 2016 • MSHS, SJA3, Amphi 31 Syriac and Arabic zoological literature (8-15 cent.
