IX MOISA Conference 2016, Athens (Greece), 11-14 July, 2016

The Department of Music Studies of the National & Kapodistrian
\nUniversity of Athens in association with L\u2019\u00c9cole Fran\u00e7aise d\u2019Ath\u00e8nes
\nwill host the IX MOISA Conference in Athens, Greece, from Monday, 11
\nto Thursday, 14 July, 2016.
\nThe conference theme is \u201cMusic and the animal world in Hellenic and
\nRoman antiquity\u201d. The keynote speaker will be Fran\u00e7ois-Bernard M\u00e2che,
\nmusicologist and composer. There will be paper and poster
\npresentations, a final concert with contemporary music inspired by
\nAntiquity, and an excursion to Delphoi on Friday 15 July, for those
\nwho would be willing to stay on after the end of the conference.<\/p>\n
Call for Papers
\nWe are now soliciting submissions for oral and poster presentations.
\nSpeakers are invited from all fields of enquiry \u2013 philology,
\narchaeology, musicology, computer science, zoology, musical acoustics,
\ntheatrology \u2013 to contribute to the theme of the conference. We welcome
\nsubmissions on the following topics:<\/p>\n
Description of animal voices (tonal and rhythmic aspects; audio
\nrepresentation)
\nClassification of animal species by their calls
\nAssociation of animal sounds with the seasons and agriculture
\nInfluence of human music on animals
\nAnimal parts in the construction of musical instruments
\nAnimals and semi-animals as musicians
\nAnimal calls imitated in human music<\/p>\n
Papers should be presented and posters written in English and must not
\nhave been previously published. The final decision on the category
\nwill be made by the scientific committee.
\nPaper presentations must not exceed the limit of 20 minutes. A 10
\nminute discussion will follow each paper.
\nFull papers will be submitted after the conference by a date to be
\nspecified in due course. A selection of accepted papers will be
\nsubmitted for publication to the MOISA official journal ‘Greek &
\nRoman
\nMusical Studies’.<\/p>\n
