Doctorant – GReNES
Directeurs : Florent Rivals (IPHES, Tarragone) & Lionel Gourichon (CEPAM, CNRS)
Affiliation : Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragone, Espagne) et CEPAM (UMR 7264, CNRS)

Ph.D. tesis (in progress): Neanderthal Paleoecology in the Middle Palaeolithic in Northern Spain: combined analysis of dental microwear and cementochronology.
Direction: Florent Rivals (IPHES, Tarragona, Spain) & Lionel Gourichon (CEPAM, CNRS, Nice, France)
Key-words: Neanderthal, Ungulates, Subsistence, Middle Palaeolithic, Spain, Dental Wear, Cementochronology, Settlement and Mobility Patterns
Graduated in History from the University of Seville (Spain) in 2011, the training was complemented with the Master Erasmus Mundus "Quaternary and Prehistory" at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain) (2011-2013). The training was focused on learning and applying the technique of dental wear (meso- and microwear) on ungulates teeth under the direction of Dr. Florent Rivals, with the objective of contributing to the knowledge of Neanderthal settlement patterns and the ecology of their prey (mainly ungulates).
In 2015 the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) awarded me with a PhD grant (FPI) linked to the project "Snapshots of Neanderthal lifestyles: Behavioural patterns and high-resolution archaeology" (HAR2013-48784-C3-1-P), based at the « Institut Català de Paleoecología Humana i Evolució Social » (Tarragona, Spain) (IPHES).
The dissertation intends to explore the issues related to behavioral, mobility and settlement patterns of Homo neanderthalensis through the study of the seasonality of their occupations in the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula. This research is based on tooth microwear analysis and cementochronology applied to the main the ungulates hunted during the Middle Palaeolithic in these areas. The aim is to address the hypothesis that Neanderthal behavior and ecology would be differentially influenced by environmental changes in two different areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
